Okay... I had a cat show up on my doorstep with a flea collar on.. He
seemed to be declawed, but didn't like his feet touched. Well... He is
SOOO loveable, and the calmest cat ever. Dogs do not even bother him,
not even our great dane!

So... today we went to the vet... and I was horrified!!! I took him to
the vet because he was running a fever, not drinking, and his feet
started to bleed last night. The vet told me that he was drug behind a
car!!!!

That his paw pads had asphalt burns and were literally tore apart, and
that his nails were not declawed, they were burnt down to nothing!!! I
live on a dead end road, so me and the vet are assuming someone dumped
him off and thought it would be funny to drag him there. The poor
baby...

He is on the way to recovery though.. But it makes me SOOO mad at
people.

I hope you report it to the police. And if the monster is found, I would like to see him tied and dragged behind a car just like he did to that poor cat. And then sent to jail.
Thank god he knew to come to you. I do think animals know where they will be safe and taken care of. He has a warm, loving home now and though he had a rough time getting there, he is better off. Take good care of him and give him a hug from me

We were originally going to give him to our vet... Because our vet
absolutely fell in love... But I think after his story and knowing how
amazing he is, we will keep him.

He had a fever of 104.5 and the vet gave him a shot for it and they
gave his feet a good soaking... But he will not drink water. I have a
fountain for our cats and he is terrified of it. I put some water in a
bowl and he still wont drink that. I'm not sure why, I know his fever
has broke from the shot the vet gave him... I have just been adding
pedialyte to wet food in hopes that will hydrate him. Any ideas on how
to help him drink water?

christine, so sorry to hear about his little pads. u know cats r silent sufferers. fortunate the two of u found ea other and ur vet.

i would always soak the top of my cat's front feet w water and she would lick them dry, but, due to his condition, maybe u could soak his tail and he will lick it dry.

Yes, people are sick to do that to a defenseless animal. I'm glad

I am very proud of you for doing what you have to take care of this
little feller. I don't know where you are from but I know there here
in Arkansas there is a group that helps animals and the lady in charge
has actually gotten laws passed here that makes animal abuse a major
crime. If any of you ever get a chance then check out
http://www.nafacares.org/

I hope that the people that hurt that poor kitty gets caught and gets
the fullest punishment there is.

Hi. Newbe here.

We have 7 totally indoor cats, six of which were taken in as feral.
Several had been injured by other people (shot and such) and one was
abandoned when the family moved and left her behind as a 6-8 week old
kitten. Abuse is all too common but it better not happen in my sight. I
wonder in your case though if the cat might have done something like
been up in a car and it started going and the cat tried to get out. It
would not take long to grind the nails down, just a few seconds, and
that would do it.

Well, normally we would consider if he hitched a ride...
But if you consider normally, even small kittens who hardly know
better, when they find themselves under a moving car, they usually
freeze instead of flight and jump off at the nearest stop. Also, the
cat is only 5lbs at 5 months old... Normally that is not too bad...
But he is easily twice the size of my 6 month old male. He is a huge
cat. You can feel ribs and every bone in his body. This also turns
toward neglect. It would take literally weeks for a cat to diminish
from the weight he should be to the weight he is now. His head is
easily wider than the palm of my hand, very large cat. Also, he did
have a ruptured anal gland and the tip of his nose and his mouth were
also burnt and damaged. I know when we found him he was not walking.
He would pretty much meow when he wanted to move, and you picked him
up. At first I thought he was being 'lazy' until I saw the damage at
the vet. This also would rule out him walking any long distance after
leaving the car. Just to get to my house from the beginning of my
dirty road is easily a mile. I live off of a main highway, but a dead
end dirt road none the less.

It is wierd if you think about it... if he was going to jump off of a
car... and changed his mind... Then he would put down his front paws
and realize that doing so hurt... Instead all four of his paws are
like that. The back ones are just as bad as the front. All are tore
up and all the nails, even all but one dewclaw are down to nothing
but bloody nubs.

Then, if he had jumped from a moving car, he probably would have
fallen over head first from the impact. Instead it is only his nose,
mouth, and paws that are messed up. The top of his head has no damage
besides flea dust and dirt.

So anyway, those were a few reasons me and the vet came to our
decision

God bless you for taking in this poor soul. I have a house full of cats like your guy. I live in NY and have taken in some pretty abused cats and rehabilitated them. Though sometimes their littles bodies are broken and even with the best vet care they never are completely normal again. These cats never seem to give up the ability to trust and love . They have turned out to be the most loveable and grateful babies in my house. Last fall I was on craigslist and came across someone who had found a kitten under a bush in the gang section of a ghetto in New York city. This kitten had an injury to its eye and no vet would help her as she had no money to take care of it. She lived in a rooming house and her landlady would put her out if she found her with a pet. My husband and I drove 3 hours to pick him up in the dark no less and took him back upstate. He weighed 15 oz. The vet said he was probably 3 weeks old. She thought he must have been attacked by a dog
or tossed around by a human. She gave him surgery to put his eye back into his socket but after a week it was apparent that wasn't going to work so she took him back to surgery to remove it. All she charged me was a banana split. She has also never charged me for any of his routine care. Needless to say she has been getting banana splits on a regular basis from her lifelong pal, Kennedy.

car... and changed his mind...

I have a house full of cats like
your guy. I live in NY and have taken in some pretty abused cats and
rehabilitated them. Though sometimes their littles bodies are broken and even
with the best vet care they never are completely normal again. These cats never
seem to give up the ability to trust and love . They have turned out to be the
most loveable and grateful babies in my house. Last fall I was on craigslist and
came across someone who had found a kitten under a bush in the gang section of a
ghetto in New York city. This kitten had an injury to its eye and no vet would
help her as she had no money to take care of it. She lived in a rooming house
and her landlady would put her out if she found her with a pet. My husband and I
drove 3 hours to pick him up in the dark no less and took him back upstate. He
weighed 15 oz. The vet said he was probably 3 weeks old. She thought he must
have been attacked by a dog
or tossed around by a human. She gave him surgery to put his eye back into his
socket but after a week it was apparent that wasn't going to work so she
took him back to surgery to remove it. All she charged me was a banana split.
She has also never charged me for any of his routine care. Needless to say she
has been getting banana splits on a regular basis from her lifelong pal,
Kennedy.

Hi Christine,

Water...I have one who LOVES the fountain. One who is more tempted by a dripping faucet, oneprefers the bathroom sink and only if it is filled so she can put her feet where they won't get wet, two who really enjoy the tub. i have even let a sick kitty lick drops of water from the end of my finger. (Took a really long time, but all else had failed.)

Keep trying different options for your little guy. I know when a cat stops drinking completely, it is a very bad sign.

The more a man knows, the more he forgives.

christine, so sorry to hear about his little pads. u know cats r silent
sufferers. fortunate the two of u found ea other and ur vet.

i would always soak the top of my cat's front feet w water and she would
lick them dry, but, due to his condition, maybe u could soak his tail and he
will lick it dry.

Well... he still isn't drinking, even though he ate dry food this
morning...

So I took a small syringe and just laid a couple of drops at a time
on his gums, as he kept his teeth closed, and he lapped it up that
way... So at least he got some water... Why would he not be drinking?
I just don't understand... He also wont move hardly... He just lays
there... Even to eat he lays there.

I know he had a high fever... I'm so worried for him. Do you think
the pedialyte/water in his wet food will be enough liquids for him?
