You can have a firearm at your campsite while camping or fishing in California. However, there are many caveats. It is important to remember that in the eyes of the law a campsite is your home, albeit temporary. Like your home you may possess a firearm in your campsite.

All campsites or cabins not already occupied or having a prior reservation may be rented by walk-in visitors. During periods of high demand, the maximum length of a camping or cabin stay is 14 nights. After 14 nights, the camper must leave the park for at least three nights before returning for a new stay.

The maximum period of time that any person is permitted to stay overnight in any designated campground or other rented overnight facility within a state park shall not exceed 14 days in any 30-day time frame.
