Effect of Silicon on Micronutrient Content in New Potato Tubers
Wanda Wadas, Tomasz Kondraciuk
Summary: The effect of foliar silicon application on micronutrient content in early crop potato tuber was investigated. Results showed that foliar-applied silicon reduced Fe concentration and increased Cu and Mn concentrations. The dosage and time of silicon application slightly affected Fe and Cu concentrations. Under drought conditions, the highest Mn content in tubers was observed with the application of 46.50 g Si/ha at the leaf development stage, whereas under periodic water deficits, it was highest at the tuber initiation stage.

Acid-resistance of one-part geopolymers: Sodium aluminate and carbonate as alternative activators to conventional sodium metasilicate and hydroxide
Ooi Wan-En, Liew Yun-Ming, Heah Cheng-Yong, Mohd Mustafa Al Bakri Abdullah, Ho Li Ngee, Phakkhananan Pakawanit, Part Wei Ken, Mohd Suhaimi Khalid, Hasniyati Md Razi, Wei-Hao Lee, Tan Soo Jin, Ong Shee-Ween, Hang Yong-Jie
Summary: This study assessed the durability of one-part geopolymers (OPGs) made from high calcium fly ash by examining their resistance to acid attacks. The study compared the acid resistance of OPGs activated using different activators and found that OPGs activated with sodium aluminate demonstrated excellent acid resistance, while those activated with sodium metasilicate and sodium hydroxide were vulnerable to acid attacks.

Nutritional Value and Sensory Quality of New Potatoes in Response to Silicon Application
Wanda Wadas
Summary: This paper investigates the effect of silicon application on the nutritional value and sensory quality of new potatoes. The results show that silicon has no impact on the composition of new potato tubers, except for an increase in starch content under water deficit conditions. Silicon application at the leaf development stage leads to the highest starch accumulation. Furthermore, silicon does not affect the color of tuber flesh after cooking.

Optimizing the concentration of Na2O in alkaline activators to improve mechanical properties and reduce costs and CO2 emissions in alkali-activated mixtures
Victor M. E. Lima, Priscilla A. Basto, Mariana A. Henrique, Yeda M. B. Almeida, Antonio A. de Melo Neto
Summary: This article evaluates the influence of Na2O concentration from sodium silicate and metasilicate activators on the physical, mechanical, and chemical/mineralogical properties of blast furnace slag alkali-activated mixtures. The results show that the optimal dosage of Na2O for achieving the highest compressive strength is 6% or 7.5% at 28 days, while the range of 4.5% to 6% is optimal for flexural strength. Excessive cracking is observed at the dosage of 7.5%, especially affecting the tensile strength. The sustainability assessment indicates that mixtures with 4.5% and 6% Na2O are more efficient in terms of CO2 emission efficiency and costs.
